Romanian official says 10 states oppose Russia’s Nord Stream-2
CHISINAU, Mar 17 (PRIME) -- Romania and nine other E.U. countries have sent a letter to the European Commission, saying that Russia’s Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline project is adverse to the interests of the E.U., Dan Sucu, an aide to Romania’s prime minister, told PRIME late Wednesday.
“Yes, this letter exists. I do not know all details of this document. I know that this issue (the Nord Stream-2 project) does not correspond with the European strategy of energy development. The letter was sent to the European Commission, to Brussels by governments of 10 states,” Sucu said.
Reuters reported earlier that eight countries had sent a letter to European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, objecting the Russian pipeline plan.
The Nord Stream-2 project envisages construction of two lines of a gas pipeline with a capacity of up to 55 billion cubic meters of gas annually, running from the Russian shore to Germany under the Baltic Sea. Gazprom will hold 50% in the project, while E.ON, BASF, Royal Dutch Shell, and OMV will own 10% each, and Engie will get a 9% stake.
